Making Memories (and Treats) for Valentine's Day
We all strive to create lasting memories for our children.
One of my biggest worries is that the memories I create with my son will not be enough. Memories—especially at my son’s young age of four—can be fleeting. I think this is one of the reasons I love to document different activities, experiences, and “fleeting” moments.
Today my husband asked me if I would enjoy the activities and projects I do with our son more without the photographer (often, my husband) capturing a contrived moment. The answer came quickly—if I could have a photographer capturing all of our day-to-day activities that would be IDEAL. This is one of the many reasons Bright Smiling Life (BSL) was born. I was drawn to the idea of creating and documenting moments in our lives.
Rory and I enjoy baking, dancing, running, and crafting together. While sometimes our actives are contrived or curated, there is an element of spontaneity and excitement that comes through doing the projects while being photographed. Yes, we dress up a little more and make the scene a bit more beautiful. The BEST part is that through the curated displays, the dressing up, and the photographer there are little sparks of joy, laughter, and truth that come shining through. Each smile, every gaze of wonder, and tender touches are real, and they are captured on film.
Let’s get on to what we chose to document though because I think you are going to love it!
This Valentine’s Day I wanted to create a treat that we could decorate and give to friends and family. So here is our newest memory together, we made white chocolate dipped pretzels. I have also linked all the items needed to create these beautiful pretzels and a lovely way to present them to all your Valentines.
Items you will need (everything is linked).
Making the white chocolate dipped pretzels:
Melt the white chocolate according to the package directions.
Add red food coloring and stir until the shade of pink is to your liking.
Place pink colored and melted white chocolate in a tall glass for dipping.
Dip pretzel rod in the melted white chocolate covering almost 3/4 of the pretzel.
Place freshly dipped pretzel on parchment paper.
Add icing and sprinkles to create a textured and pretty look.
Wait 3-4 hours for the white chocolate to fully harden before placing finished pretzels in the cello bags.
Place the white chocolate dipped pretzel in the cello bag and use a silver twist to complete the look.
While you might not be preparing a blog post when you make these at your home, you may want to get your camera out and take a photo. If for no other reason, do it as a way to not forget the memory.
